Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT, is model of therapy that is short-term and problem focused. It is a behavioral treatment that is focused on problems in beliefs, thoughts or feelings. It helps to free people from unhelpful patterns of thought and helps people create new creative and helpful thought patterns and behaviors.
The main idea that CBT is grounded in, is the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response.
CBT can help with:
- Anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Persistent pain
- Sexual issues and others
If any of the these issues apply to you, CBT can help you. by changing your thoughts which directly affect your feelings, emotions and actions.
Some CBT techniques used to release tension are:
- Journalling
- Challenging beliefs/thoughts
- Relaxation
- Meditation
- Mindfulness
In Cognitive Behavior Therapy, the therapist and the person create goals that guide treatment. This makes sure that treatment is productive and therapeutic for the person.
